Strip Mall Survey

Strip Mall Survey (2015-2017) is a zine in which I chronicle the construction of a local strip mall through analog and digital capturing apparatus. I began the work by documenting the construction site with a 35mm camera. Then, I created digital inkjet transfers to be placed on pink survey flags. I culled images from the Google Street View (GSV) of the newly constructed strip mall and captured them with a digital camera. I used the digital camera to exaggerate the moire effect. The moire effect is symbolic of machine vision. The GSV or machine vision depicts the detachedness held by the hegemony. I aim to highlight the hegemonic land practices historically connected to urban sprawl.
